City trips in the USA: New York and Chicago
Off to the Big Apple: New York is still the number one destination for international city trips! Alone in the Manhattan district there is so much to see: Skyscrapers like the Empire State Building or the new One World Trade Center, museums like the MoMa or the Guggenheim Museum, the famous Time Square or the immigrant neighborhoods Little Italy or Chinatown.
Not to forget the Statue of Liberty on the island off New York City. If you need some peace from the city noise, you will find a lot of green in the huge Central Park. Also worth seeing is the large Brooklyn district, which is now a hip artists’ quarter with galleries, boutiques and many chic stores. In the south of the Borough is also Coney Island, which is known for its amusement park and the long sandy beach.
Another major city in the eastern USA is Chicago. With almost three million residents, it is the third largest city in the country. The sights of the “Windy City” are mainly located in downtown, which spreads out directly from the shore of the huge Lake Michigan. Highlights in the city are the Willis Tower – the second tallest building in the USA -,
the Field Museum with the largest dinosaur skeleton or the Millennium Park with the award-winning sculpture Cloud Gate. A boat trip on the Chicago River, which winds its way through the canyons of skyscrapers, is highly recommended. Chicago is also considered a center of blues and jazz, the film classic Blues Brothers was shot here, for example. The city is littered with music clubs – and bars, for example in the popular entertainment district of Wicker Park.
