ITINERARY
Day 1:
Arrival in Cologne
Arrival in Cologne and transfer from airport/train station to your hotel. After hotel check-in, we recommend a walk through the city and a visit of the breathtaking Cologne Cathedral, landmark of the city, which was built from 1248 to 1880. With a height of 157,38m, this masterpiece of Gothic architecture is the third highest sacral building in the world. Those who want to get into the mood for carnival (Germany’s mardi gras), should head towards the historic centre of Cologne and the streets around the Alter Markt. The evening is at your free disposal.
Day 2:
Cologne “Rosenmontagszug” (Carnival Monday Parade)
For today we recommend to eat a rich breakfast as the biggest German carnival parade starts as early as 10:30 a.m.. The almost 7km long parade takes about 4 hours and meanders through the city centre of Cologne. Up to one million viewers marvel at and applaud costumed groups, marching bands, equestrians and decorated parade floats. Try your best to catch some of over 700,000 chocolates, 220,000 boxes of pralines, 300,000 bouquets of flowers, thousands of stuffed animals or other presents which are thrown from the floats. After the parade, numerous bars and pubs around the city centre of Cologne are full of carnival-goers who keep singing and dancing until dawn.
Day 3:
Departure
Upon request, we will organize a late check-out for you - in case the reprecussions of “Rosenmontag” should avoid an early departure. You will return home with many unforgettable memories of Cologne in the so-called 5th season.
