Oktoberfest Munich
The world-largest folk festival - an over 200-year-old tradition!
22.September 2012 - 07.October 2012

Description
Since 1810 the by now biggest folk-festival of the world is taking place in Munich and attracts over 6 million visitors per year.
The roots of this famous event are dating back to October 17, 1810 when the wedding of Bavarian Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I.) and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen was celebrated with splendid festivities and a horse-race on the so-called Theresienwiese. On the same meadow, named after the bride Therese, the nowadays world-biggest folk-festival is taking place. The locals in Munich fondly refer to Oktoberfest as "die Wiesn" because of this location, Theresienwiese.
On the Oktoberfest, many visitors wear the traditional costumes of the region: the "Dirndl" for the women and "Lederhosen" for the men. Among the main attractions of this festival is certainly the special Oktoberfest beer which is brewed with a higher alcohol content of approx. 6 to 7%. During three weeks between the end of September and the beginning of October, approximately one liter beer per visitor is being served.
